Starting a business is a dream for many, but all too quickly it can become overwhelming

Since 1999 when I founded my own company, Admin24, providing bespoke virtual back office support, I have worked alongside business coaches, leadership coaches, life coaches, consultants, trainers and many other types of small businesses.

Starting a business is a dream for many, but all too quickly it can become overwhelming. If you keep trying to do everything yourself and you don’t have proper systems and support in place, the dream soon turns into a nightmare.

Long days, missing out on family time, working weekends, skipping holidays and doing tasks that are not making you money, will eventually lead to poverty and burn out.

I personally know what it's like to feel ALL of the above, which is why I created Back 2 Business Basics.

I'm here to show you how to start as you mean to go on if you're a newbie business owner. Or if you're an established business, how to change the way you work - even if you've been in business for a zillion years!

So, what's the solution?

If you are not in a position to hire an assistant at the moment, there is still plenty that you can do to make life easier for yourself, whether you are new to your industry or an established business owner.

Wouldn't it be great to know that you don't have to spend evenings or weekends catching up with your own admin?

Here's how to make a start

I recommend you automate as many admin tasks as you can. To do this, you'll need to review your systems and processes.

STEP ONE: Set a side an hour or two. Book time out of your calendar to do this  and honour it, it will be worth the effort in the long run.

STEP TWO: Grab a pad and pen and draw a line down the middle of the page. You could use an iPad or laptop if you prefer.

STEP THREE: Write down everything you do as part of your own business admin in the left hand column. This will give you a picture in your minds eye, where you spend your time.

STEP FOUR: In the right hand column, note whether each task can be automated, and how. For example, if you have written down scheduling client appointments, this can DEFINITELY be automated.  Another example, which most people hate (I can hear the groans already!), is reconciling bank transactions. Yep, this can be automated too - yay!

STEP FIVE: From your list, identify one task that you can easily automate then allocate 30 - 60 minutes in your diary to set up the automation. Be specific with the time you allocate to help you stay focused on the task.

STEP SIX: Continue identifying tasks to automate, easiest first, setting aside time to create the automations. Remember it's important to honour the time as you would for a client, to ensure you automate as much as you can, as quickly as you can.

By going through the process above, you should be able to free up some hours throughout your working week to spend on money generating tasks or allow yourself some downtime.
